Preparing Your Home
How to set up a calm, secure home before a rescue animal arrives from China.
Create a quiet landing space
Choose one room where the animal can rest without pressure. Keep the room simple: water, bedding, food, cleaning supplies and a few safe toys are enough. Avoid inviting visitors during the first days.
Check safety before arrival
Secure windows, balconies and doors before the animal enters the home. For dogs, prepare a well-fitted harness, a backup safety lead and an ID tag. For cats, check window locks and remove fragile items from high shelves.
Plan the first routines
Agree on feeding times, toilet breaks and who will handle walks or litter cleaning. Rescue animals settle faster when the home becomes predictable. A calm routine is more useful than constant attention.
Prepare for decompression
Some animals look relaxed immediately, while others hide, pace or sleep a lot. This does not mean the adoption is failing. It usually means the animal is processing travel, new smells and new people.
